Learn About the Artist!
Hortensia Bueno is a Mexico City painter. She is a favorite of art lovers all over the world. Her gouache-on-paper paintings are full of life and color. She expresses her cultural identity by conveying community values through the sensuality of women, dance, and colored dresses with inspiration from the depths of the tropical Mexican coast and jungle!
Hortensia Bueno learned how to paint and sculpt at the National School of Painting, Sculpture, and Engraving "La Esmeralda" in Mexico City.
Magical realism is where her obsessions and characters come to life. She creates female beings such as mermaids, angels, devils, and witches! These characters are surrounded by landscapes and symbols of flowers, cacti, and churches.
Hortensia also creates a world that embellishes fun mind-bending magical creatures throughout her paintings such as iguanas, crocodiles, crabs, birds, fish, and cats with wings.
These visionary paintings have been collected through several galleries in Mexico, the United States, and Europe.
We have a collection of her original artwork that can brighten up your home. Feel free to explore our Art Gallery and fall into a deep realm of color and mystic creatures!
